Lesson 4 – CODE OF CONDUCT – WISDOM

 

 

I.  KNIGHTHOOD REVIEW

 

A.  Vision for manhood – a man is someone who rejects passivity, accepts responsibility, leads courageously, and expects a greater reward – God’s reward

 

B.  Code of Conduct – how we act when nobody’s looking

 

C.  Transcendent (timeless) Cause – Living for something (someone) that last forever

 

II.  CODE OF CONDUCT – Wisdom: knowledge used for God’s glory

 

A.  Knowledge – learning facts or information

 

B.  Wisdom – practical application of knowledge in order to live a happy and successful life

 

III.  God made us to be eternally happy

                                                      

A.  We seek happiness from a different source (God) and in different ways (according to God’s word)

 

B. We are sometimes, like Jesus, called to sacrifice for a little while

 

IV.  Characteristics of those with wisdom

 

A. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” – Proverbs 9:10

 

B.  Humility is foundational because it makes us teachable and open to change

 

C.  Hearers and doers of God’s word

 

D.  Discernment (judgment) based on a minds and hearts saturated with God’s word

 

V.  Ways to get wisdom

 

A.  Desire wisdom with all your might

 

B.  Apply ourselves to the study and meditation to know the Word of God and do it

 

C.  Pray for wisdom

 

D.  Stay humble in order to learn from others and learn from our own mistakes

 

E.  Come to Jesus – absolutely essential and necessary for all of the above

 

 

SCRIPTURE VERSES TO REMEMBER AND APPLY:

 

Get wisdom, get understanding;   do not forget my words or turn away from them. (Proverbs 4:5)

 

Happy is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gets understanding. (Proverbs 3:13)

 

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. (Proverbs 9:10)
