Lesson 7 – CODE OF CONDUCT – Faith

I.  KNIGHTHOOD REVIEW

A.  Vision for manhood – a man is someone who takes action (rejects passivity), accepts responsibility, leads courageously, and expects a greater reward – God’s reward

B.  Code of Conduct – how we act when nobody’s looking

C.  Lives for a higher cause – God’s glory

II.  CODE OF CONDUCT – Courage: Acting on God’s promises

A.  Courage – doing what is right, even when afraid

B.  Christian faith is believing what God has said in His Word and acting accordingly  - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1)

C.  Two aspects of Christian faith:

i.  Saving faith - must come first and represents our repentance (confessing and turning from sin) and trusting in Jesus’ death as payment for our sins

ii  Walking faith - our cooperating with the Holy Spirit to become like Christ – to be and do as God wants

D.  Why this faith is important to us:

i.  Without saving faith we have no relationship to God and will suffer judgment for our sins (Heb. 11:6, John 3:16, John 3:18)

ii.  We require walking faith to grow, avoid trouble, give evidence of our saving faith and experience joy (Col. 2:6-7, 1 Peter 5:8, James 2:26, 1 Peter 1:8)

III.  APPLICATION

A.  Christianity is about faith: faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and continues our whole lives as we walk and grow in that faith.

B.  How do I get (more) faith?

i.  Faith is a gift from God. (Eph. 2:8)

ii.  If we need more faith, we can ask God for it. Faith is not never having doubts, but it doesn’t give up when doubts come along (Mark 9:24)

iii.  Our faith grows when we are tested (James 1:2-4)

SCRIPTURE VERSES TO REMEMBER AND APPLY:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1)

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God (Eph. 2:8)

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. (Col. 2:6-7)
