Lesson 5 – CODE OF CONDUCT – OBEDIENCE

 

 

I.  KNIGHTHOOD REVIEW

 

A.  Vision for manhood – a man is someone who rejects passivity, accepts responsibility, leads courageously, and expects a greater reward – God’s reward

 

B.  Code of Conduct – how we act when nobody’s looking

 

C.  Lives for something (someone) that last forever

 

II.  CODE OF CONDUCT – Obedience: always doing what God says

 

A.  Obedience – following orders, laws and requests of authorities

 

B.  Life is like a race; it requires serious training and running according to the rules

 

C.  Obedience begins with recognizing who has legitimate authority

 

i.  The Centurion understood what it meant to be obedient to those in authority, even to Jesus who had authority over the illness of his servant – Matthew 8:9

 

ii.  God is the Ultimate Authority

 

D.  Delegation is when God as Ultimate Authority grants authority to certain individuals

 

i.  We are to obey God’s delegated authorities because they have been appointed by God, even if they are not Christian – Romans 13:1-5

 

ii.  When we disobey the authority God has appointed over us we are disobeying God

 

E.  Immediate Action is what God expects of us when we are spoken to by legitimate authority

 

F.  God expects obedience without grumbling and complaining – Philippians 2:1-17

 

III.  APPLICATION

 

A.  We don’t earn God’s love by our obedience, rather…

 

B.  Obedience is an act of love and worship in response to God’s saving and loving us

 

SCRIPTURE VERSES TO REMEMBER AND APPLY:

 

And if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules

(2 Timothy 2:5)

 

“If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15)
